The annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is a long-term conservation effort (the 2023 count will be the 124th successive count). PWAS has participated in this activity annually since the 74th CBC (50 years when we finish our count this year). Our 15-mile diameter count circle is centered south of the city and has been divided into 7 separate areas for counting. The 2023 count will take place on Saturday, December 31, 2022. Count teams go into the field to look for birds in several areas denoted as local hot spots (based on previous year counts). But, even if you don't wish to go out into the field, you can participate by doing a feeder count in your own backyard.
We welcome all participants - field or feeder counters. Please contact the CBC Compiler - Joshua Hodge to sign up for this year's count. Joshua can be reached at 601-765-5674 or by e-mail at [email protected].
